We humans are a force of nature. At the same time human activities alter the basic elements of life – earth, air, water, and fire – those elements change human life. In an arresting new documentary from the producers of Racing Extinction, The Cove and Chasing Ice, environmental photographer James Balog captures the lives of everyday Americans on the front lines of climate change. With rare compassion and heart, The Human Element inspires us to reevaluate our relationship with the natural world. -This is the official description from the film’s website and Earth Vision Film. Review by Rachel Avalon
The Human Element is a must-see film that doesn’t preach to the choir. Instead, it is a visceral and relatable documentary for a broad range of Americans, even those who deny the realities of climate change. Prioritizing storytelling over dry data, it is an up-close and personal account of some of the real lives and jobs affected by air pollution, rising sea levels, mega fires, the impact of coal mining, and other symptoms of a planet in peril. Visually captivating and filled with humanity, I highly recommend sharing The Human Element with family and friends, especially with anyone who hasn’t been motivated to take climate action yet. TheHumanElementMovie.com also has a wealth of resources for educators and activists.
