“Heroin(e) demands better from the world outside those mountains. It does not let anyone distance themselves. It presents addicts and rescuers in the same frame, with the same respect. It asks you to see.” – The New Republic, Sarah Jones
“Sheldon’s choice to follow three women pays off in a big way, keeping the viewer engaged and presenting a fuller picture of the former industrial town.” – IndieWire, Jude Dry
Review by Rachel Avalon
Heroin(e), a documentary short on Netflix, delivers a visceral message: the opioid crisis is devastating lives beyond imagination, but compassionate community leaders are doing everything within their power to turn things around. Both tragic and hopeful, this film beautifully humanizes everyone touched by heroine and opioid addiction, from first responders and judges to addicts and social workers. The three women featured in Heroin(e) shows us what heroism is all about, courageously supporting a healthy community.
