Apparel can have a big impact on how we feel and it can have a big impact on the planet. For instance, the average American throws away 67.9 pounds of textiles a year. In a landfill most synthetic fibers don’t decompose. Ever. So, my top recommendation is to seek out secondhand clothing through clothes swap parties, thrift stores, and consignment shops. When you’re seeking out new stuff though, look for organic and natural fibers or recycled materials that are made sweatshop-free. It can be a challenge to find that combo, but if we all do our best we’ll help reshape retail for a healthier, happier planet.
The products I’ve listed here meet at least one of my standards for ethical fashion since they are: sustainable, vegan, and/or supporting living wages and fair working conditions.
