When the weather is hot here are some tips to stay cool and healthy, naturally:
Eat cooling foods: Cool your body (and emotions) from the inside out when needed. Here are some examples of foods, herbs, and spices that can do the trick: cucumbers, mint, melons, leafy greens, coconut, plums, seaweeds, zucchini, strawberries, turmeric, and radishes.
Stay hydrated & alkaline: Of course staying well hydrated and steering clear of acidic (inflammation-inducing) coffee will also help tremendously.
Use a natural sunscreen: Another way to stay happy in the sun is to use a natural sunscreen. We’ve been told for years that sunscreen is essential, but strangely as chemical-based formulas have increased so have the rates of skin cancer. Shockingly, many of the top brands use ingredients that are linked to hormone disruption, cancer, and a whole other host of issues. That’s why I recommend alternatives like Eco Logical for the body and for babies plus Devita as a daily moisturizer. Both have an SPF 30. You can even do a little research and experimenting and make your own sunscreen. This is by far the most economical choice, especially for families.
Eating an abundance of fresh, seasonal produce and steering clear of conventional, toxic sunscreens are easy ways to protect your body in exhausting heat.
